This Scandinavian influenced modern bach family home is designed by Redbox Architects and built by Jason Frater is situated behind the bustling Kaiteriteri Beach in the Abel Tasman. This is an exceptionally calm and peaceful landscape which blends this architecturally designed holiday home perfectly into it’s landscape.

The design is sleek, simple and uncluttered with glass, see-through walk ways linking the separate cabins, large light living spaces and contemporary features. The owners wanted separate zones for adults and children, spaces to entertain and spaces to play but they wanted something unique.

The location of the building platform was positioned on very swampy ground so one hundred piles were driven to create a floating concrete floor. The architect was restricted to designing at 200 sqm house on this describe “unique site” . The results are something rather subtle but uber modern.

A neutral colour scheme fits in with the polished concrete floors, white washed walls and black joinery. It’s simple beach living really with clean lines and natural products.

Natural light was used as much a possible by Dominique with addition external flash to combat the very harsh flat sunlight in the day of the shoot. The sunny day shooting conditions created lots of light and dark shadows which was slightly difficult to balance with the dark furniture and lighter walls. Dominique used a selection of wide angle lenses with 50mm for more close up and editorial.
